Affinity Plus Foundation sponsored “Mad About Money” performances in schools

ST. PAUL, MN (January 22, 2014) — For the second year in a row, the Affinity Plus Foundation partnered with the National Theatre for Children (NTC) and sponsored 10 performances of Mad About Money II: Pay Yourself First. The engaging production is geared toward middle school students so that they can learn how to develop good saving and spending habits now so that they’re financially successful in the future.

“We received such a great response last year from teachers, administrative officials, and parents who expressed that the students really enjoyed the performances, and learned a lot about managing their money, which is why we decided to sponsor the performances again,” states Dave Larson, Executive Director of the Affinity Plus Foundation. “It’s a great way for us to help students learn good habits now about something that will affect the rest of their lives.”

The NTC was founded in 1978 and since has been dedicated to educating young people on important and timely educational topics by offering live, educational theatre to schools across the nation. The Mad About Money II: Pay Yourself First performance, will feature four key educational points that speak to students:

  • Wages minus deductions equals take home pay
  • Saving and investing always have some risk involved
  • Don’t let advertisers make your decisions
  • Financial choices affect your future

The ten performances of Mad About Money II: Pay Yourself First performances were seen by more than 2,400 students who attend schools in Lakeville, Duluth, Bemidji, Baxter, St. Paul, Bloomington, Eden Valley, and Cottage Grove. Teachers who attended the performances with their students valued the educational value of the program very high, and 100% responded that they would like the program to be repeated at their school.
