America First Credit Union gives $80,000 to organizations working to improve the lives of others at annual check presentation event

(December 17, 2014) — In an effort to give back to organizations that work tirelessly to improve the lives of others, America First Credit Union gave $80,000 during an annual check presentation event on Wednesday, Dec. 10. As part of America First’s non-profit organization, the America First Charitable Foundation, eight organizations each received $10,000 to continue efforts to help others. Those designated organizations include Christmas Box International, The Road Home, SafeNest, St. Anne’s Homeless Shelter, YCC of Northern Utah, Cathedral of the Madeline Good Shepherd Program, SHARE, Inc. and Catholic Community Services, Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank.

In 1989, America First Credit Union created its non-profit organization, the America First Credit Union Charitable Foundation, which supports several programs, including the Warm the Soles of Kids holiday shoe giving program, educational scholarships and the Community Assistance Program.

The mission of the Community Assistance Program is to provide funds to assist the homeless and other disadvantaged individuals in the communities America First serves. Money for the Community Assistance Program is raised through America First Credit Union member donations and distributed to organizations that provide job assistance, training, housing, food and medical attention to those in need.

Celebrating 75 years, America First has become one of the largest, most stable and most progressive credit unions in the country, and has remained a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative financial institution. Today, America First has 109 branches, and is the 12th largest credit union in assets in the United States with over $6.4 billion, and the seventh largest credit union in membership in America with more than 659,000 members.
