Another successful backpack drive for affinity foundation for MI Kids.
(October 29, 2014) — Through the generosity of Affinity Group Credit Union members and employees; another 300 backpacks filled with school supplies went out this year to 28 local schools. Throughout the summer of 2014, members and employees could drop off school supplies at the six credit union branches and sponsor a backpack by donating money to the Affinity Foundation for Michigan kids. “Our members and employees are simply amazing, said Gary Leach Senior VP for AGCU. They continue to make a difference in the lives of MI kids through this and other efforts.”
This year, AGCU focused on working with local school districts to identify students in need of backpacks and supplies during the first two weeks of the school year. “We are grateful for our partnership with Affinity Credit Union, said Jim Baker, Huron Valley Schools Superintendent. Their donation of backpacks filled with school supplies is but one demonstration of their commitment to our community.”
Through district offices, principals, counselors, and teachers, credit union team members dropped off backpacks filled with supplies to schools for distribution to the children that had been identified. “What a nice surprise when you visited our school with your generous gift of backpacks, said Principal Mary Pantier from Memorial Elementary in Garden City. We will make sure they get on the back of children in need. It “takes a village” to raise the children and we appreciate your generous donation.”
Schools in the following districts received backpacks and supplies: Center Line, Flat Rock, Garden City, Huron Valley, Pontiac, Warren Consolidated, and Wyandotte. A list of specific schools is attached.
The Affinity Foundation for Michigan Kids (AFMK), a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation was created in 2010 to provide educational and personal growth opportunities to Michigan kids and young adults up to age 25. AFMK rallies member and community support by collecting financial donations and school supplies at all six Southeast Michigan Affinity Group Credit Union branches. You can support our effort during your next trip to one of our branches by bringing in school supplies or making a charitable contribution: www.agcu4mikids.org.
