Arlington Community FCU announces CFO retirement

ARLINGTON, VA (May 1, 2020) — Arlington Community Federal Credit Union (ACFCU) announced the retirement of long time Chief Financial Officer, Bill Maher. During his tenure of over 10 years, Maher helped guide the credit union through recessionary years and on to significant financial expansion. He is deeply committed to his community and has a passion for serving vulnerable communities in Arlington.

Maher has been a strong supporter of several area non-profits, serving in board positions with Edu-Futuro, and Aspire! Afterschool Learning; on the Finance Committee of Arlington Neighborhood Villages; on the Arlington Public Schools Community Working Group on Immigrant and Refugee Students; and as an inaugural member of the National Association for Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) CFO Council. He is a graduate of the Leadership Center for Excellence’s Signature Program – Leadership Arlington. Maher focused his professional and personal efforts on supporting underrepresented groups, especially immigrant students and families.

Maher arrived at ACFCU in the midst of the 2008 economic crisis and helped navigate the credit union through a period that saw many financial institutions fail.  In the ensuing years, he has continued to ensure financial soundness at ACFCU through his unwavering commitment to help members and the Arlington community.

During Maher’s time as CFO, the credit union received numerous awards including the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Best Business Award, Arlington Chamber of Commerce Chair’s Award, Arlington Magazine’s reader’s choice for Best Community Bank, Sun Gazette’s Best of the Best, and NAFCU’s Credit Union of the Year.

Maher is replaced by incoming CFO Keith Lotf, who joined ACFCU from Amoco Federal Credit Union, where he served as Vice President of Asset Liability Management.
