BHFCU staff-led giving program raises nearly $10,000 in Q1

RAPID CITY, SD (April 15, 2024)Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) is proud to empower its employees to make a difference in the communities they serve. This commitment is exemplified  by their longstanding support of the staff-led Community Action Team (CAT). In the first quarter of  this year, BHFCU staff raised nearly $10,000, making a significant impact on the charitable  organizations they support.

From January through March, the CAT program focused its support on helping the unhoused,  promoting health and wellness, and aiding kids. During this time, staff raised $9,961, created 1,367  valentines, collected dozens of blankets, packed 8,000 kits, donated 38 units of blood, and  volunteered 68 hours.

BHFCU’s support extended to organizations such as the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, WAVI,  Vitalant, the Monument Health Cancer Care Institute, the Readiatrics Book Drive, Big Brother Big  Sisters of the Black Hills, Wellfully, and Youth & Family Services. They also reached beyond the  Black Hills, benefiting The Banquet in Sioux Falls and the Missouri Shores Domestic Violence  Center in Pierre. Additionally, BHFCU staff gave to the American Heart Association, the Parkinson’s  Foundation, veterans homes, and senior care facilities across their service area.

“My favorite part about CAT is that it’s all about supporting the passions of our staff,” said Leslie  Millard, Marketing Communications Specialist. “First quarter projects spanned getting out in the  community to volunteer, collecting hygiene items and books, and some competitive auctions, all in  the name of raising money for organizations near to our crew’s hearts.”

Highlights from first quarter fundraising efforts included the annual Share the Warmth Blanket Drive  for the unhoused, two blood drives with Vitalant, an epic pie-in-the-face event where two senior  leaders were covered in whipped cream, hundreds of handmade valentines, and a 1,000 kit build  completed in mere days.

Please join BHFCU in celebrating the charitable contributions of its staff. They live the credit union’s  mission to improve lives every day.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and  donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a  501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
