California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ Tena Lozano Elected Chairman of California Jump$tart Coalition
Organization Promotes Youth Financial Education
(August 5, 2013) — Tena Lozano, California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ consumer advocacy manager and executive director for the Richard Myles Johnson (RMJ) Foundation, has been elected as chairman of the board of directors of the California Jump$tart Coalition—the state chapter of the national not-for-profit organization that promotes financial literacy among the nation’s youth.
“The Coalition’s mission very much parallels the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation’s goal of improving the personal financial education of young people,” said Lozano.
The 19-member board implements the mission and vision of the National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy in the state of California. It assists the personal finance education community become more connected, effective, and powerful; and supports the implementation of personal finance education at every level from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The board consists of professionals from education, finance and accounting, business and government.
The California Credit Union League has been associated with the California Jump$tart Coalition since its organization in 2000. Lozano became a member of the California Jump$tart Coalition in 2007 through her work with the RMJ Foundation, the state foundation for credit unions in California and Nevada, which supports youth financial education and continuing education for credit union leaders.
Lozano is responsible for the Leagues’ consumer advocacy, media relations, community outreach, international relations, and financial education efforts. In her role as executive director of the RMJ Foundation, she is responsible for administering and coordinating activities to support the goals and objectives of the Foundation.
In the area of financial education, Lozano serves on the California Department of Education’s Business Education Resources Group (BERG), helping to draft standards and curriculum for Career Technical Education. Other affiliations include the FDIC’s Alliance for Economic Inclusion, Bank on California, and State Credit Union Foundation Network Executive Committee (vice chairman).
She has more than 20 years’ experience in the credit union movement, including work in public relations at WesCorp and the Leagues. She received a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from California Polytechnic University, Pomona, and is a recent graduate of Western CUNA Management School.
