City of Warner Robins proclaims International Credit Union Day

WARNER ROBINS, GA (October 27, 2021) — Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms along with Robins Financial Credit Union and members of the community came together to sign a proclamation on Thursday, October 21, 2021 to be recognized as International Credit Union Day in the city of Warner Robins. Christina O’Brien, President and CEO of Robins Financial Credit Union, along with representatives from CGR Credit Union, Combined Employees Credit Union, MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union and HEA Federal Credit Union were there to witness and celebrate this event.

In addition to the Proclamation event, Robins Financial Credit Union held a weeklong celebration for International Credit Union Day. Robins Financial staff performed virtual readings of children’s books about money and encouraged children and their families to read along at home. The videos were published on Robins Financial’s Facebook page. After the virtual readings, Robins Financial donated over 450 copies of the books read to 90 local elementary schools to help provide a fun way for kids to learn about spending and saving money.

Robins Financial held other virtual contests for members of all ages to safely celebrate International Credit Union Day. Other events included a coloring contest for youth members with 5 winners selected, and a contest for the completion of online financial literacy courses on their free It’s a Money Thing Academy. Over 45 courses were completed during that week. A virtual scavenger hunt was also held on their Facebook page, where members were given an item that went along with the theme “Find the Bright in Your Home” each day to find and submit a photo. Some of the items to be found for the virtual scavenger hunt included nail polish, neon signs, lava lamps and glow sticks. Over 710 entries were submitted by more than 380 participants. Prizes ranging from $50-$100 were awarded to 15 members who participated in each of the various International Credit Union Day contests.

International Credit Union Day is a day for credit unions around the world to celebrate their history and show appreciation to their members and communities. The theme for International Credit Union Day this year was “Building Financial Health for a Brighter Tomorrow.” The global health crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted communities around the world, and credit unions have continued to support our members and communities during this time of economic uncertainty.
