Connex Credit Union acquires Sargent Employees Federal Credit Union

NORTH HAVEN, CT (January 7, 2015) – Connex Credit Union, one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions, announced today that it has merged with New Haven-based Sargent Employees Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) with Connex Credit Union as the surviving entity. The transaction was completed January 2, 2015, and was approved by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the State of Connecticut Department of Banking, and the members of SEFCU.

“We are committed to making the transition to Connex Credit Union as easy and seamless as possible for SEFCU members,” said Frank Mancini, President and CEO, Connex Credit Union. “SEFCU was looking for a credit union partner that would offer its members a deeper set of products and services. We’re confident that our new members will enjoy access to competitive loan products, online and mobile banking, investment and retirement services, and our member advocacy program.”

The merger now offers SEFCU members access to seven Connex branch locations throughout greater New Haven. The SEFCU office branch located at 100 Sargent Drive in New Haven will remain open until February 27, 2015. There are currently no plans to reopen this branch as a Connex Credit Union branch.

Founded in 1936, SEFCU has approximately 700 members and more than $3.4 million in assets. Connex Credit Union has approximately 49,000 members and more than $400 million in assets. Frank Mancini will continue to lead Connex Credit Union and the combined organization as President and CEO.

Mancini said SEFCU members have immediate access to Connex’s digital money management tools as well as the credit union’s member advocacy program. “We offer each of our members the opportunity to work with a financial advocate one-on-one so that we can better understand their goals, identify their financial needs, and develop a personal plan to improve their overall financial situation.”

Connex offers a full-line of personal savings, checking, and loan products, as well as free online banking, mobile banking, home equity lines of credit and other competitive products and services. Connex members enjoy the convenience of access to over 5,000 branches and 43,000 surcharge free ATMs nationwide through their partnership with national network providers.
