Cornerstone League names Washima Huq Young Professional of the Year
ARLINGTON, TX (August 19, 2021) — Washima Huq of Texas Trust Credit Union has been named the 2021 Young Professional of the Year by the Cornerstone League.
Huq joined the $1.6 billion credit union in 2017 as a Business Community Engagement Partner. In that role she works to create, develop, and grow community connections and help businesses deliver financial services to their employees.
As a young professional, “Washima is adept at forging relationships with her peers, our partners, and high-ranking executives,” said Debi Knoblock, Assistant Vice President of Texas Trust Credit Union. “Her leadership, heart, and passion for creating inclusive and diverse communities and making a difference in the lives of others is evident in everything she does, making her an ideal up-and-coming credit union professional.”
Knoblock added that Huq “is the embodiment of a credit union leader, and we are proud that she was selected for this prestigious award.”
The Cornerstone League honored Huq at its annual Young Professionals Conference in Dallas. Each year Cornerstone recognizes the accomplishments of a professional between the ages of 18 and 40 who has demonstrated strong leadership and a passion for making a difference in the credit union movement and who is highly engaged in the industry.
During the pandemic, Huq pitched management on the value of creating an online financial education program, resulting in the development of the True Dollar Webinar series, which she now oversees as project manager, producer, host, and moderator. She was also instrumental in producing a virtual reality fair for Texas Trust’s school partners, allowing the schools to continue to provide financial education to their students. The virtual fairs reached hundreds of high school students.
Huq is a founding member of the Greater Arlington Chamber Asian Business Council, an Advisory Council Member of Greater Arlington Chamber Women’s Alliance, a Business Advisory Council Member of Mansfield ISD’s Ben Barber Innovation Academy and an Advisory Board Member of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA. She is also an active member of Cornerstone’s Young Professionals Group and a graduate of Leadership Mansfield and Leadership Mansfield ISD.
