Credit Union Financial Education Network updates reporting standards to support credit union leaders who advocate for mandated national financial education

ST. PAUL, MN (April 28, 2023) — The Credit Union Financial Education Network (CUFEN) announced today that the organization had updated its reporting system to better supply critical data to senior credit union leaders fighting for mandated financial education nationwide. Historically, CUFEN has been a leader in collecting critical financial education data. CUFEN’s reporting metrics provide quantitative and qualitative data from credit unions across the country executing local financial literacy initiatives in their respective regions.

CUFEN urges all credit unions to embed financial literacy into all facets of their brand, especially in community outreach and school partnership activities. Providing presentation materials and best practices to CUFEN on how initiatives and campaigns work for your organization can provide essential resources for other credit unions.

An April 2023 Yahoo Finance article deemed the lack of financial literacy in America an “epidemic.” CUFEN Chair Trysh Olson believes financial literacy in America is experiencing a positive shift. “Financial literacy awareness is greater than ever because the realization that we lack knowledge, especially among our nation’s youth, is undeniable. Enriching lives through financial education is at the heart of the credit union movement. Reporting your financial education efforts is critical for continuing the momentum and ensuring our legislators have available resources to help us keep financial literacy top of mind and show the credit union difference,” Olson explained.

CUFEN suggests using its website’s reporting tips to ensure consistency and continuity among reports. Their reporting cadence is designated July 1 through June 30 the following year to better align with traditional school year calendars and the annual CUFEN Conference.
