Credit union grants internship program to 15 high school students

MIAMI, FL (July 21, 2014) — South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union (SFEFCU) recently hired 15 high school students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools as summer interns. SFEFCU’s Internship Program, in its 8th year, offers students valuable work experience and provides real-world business education.

The Internship Program gives students a five week opportunity to explore the finance environment and polish their professional skills before graduating. The program stresses the importance of examining different career paths and preparing for the college experience.

“The program provides students with opportunities to develop their professional skills and have a better understanding of working in a professional business setting,” said Roxana Miranda, Human Resources Recruiter.

Students underwent a selective process requiring them to provide a strong academic résumé, develop effective interview and time management skills and demonstrate their knowledge of appropriate work attire. In addition, students experienced an interview boot camp and skills-related testing.

The Internship Program will culminate with students having to address SFEFCU’s President, Vice-Presidents, their peers and their family members in a presentation about their experience and the lessons they learned during their time at the Credit Union.
