Credit Union Leaders ‘Storming the Hill’ for NAFCU’s 2013 Congressional Caucus

WASHINGTON, DC (September 9, 2013) — Hundreds of credit union leaders from around the country are gathering today to kick off the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) 2013 Congressional Caucus, which runs through Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“With the focus in Washington on so many issues critical to credit unions, the Caucus will put industry leaders in the right place at the right time,” said the association’s chief executive, B. Dan Berger. “I can’t think of a more significant event to give my first address as NAFCU president and CEO.

“Credit union leaders will gain insight from and access to lawmakers and others directly involved in regulatory relief, tax reform, housing finance reform, debit interchange and more. This year’s Caucus, ‘Storming the Hill,’ is where credit unions will make their concerns known to legislators in Washington.”

The Caucus general sessions provides a robust lineup of more than 20 speakers from the Senate, House, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and other federal agencies. Capitol Hill visits with lawmakers and numerous networking events at popular Washington establishments are also on the agenda.

Today’s speakers include Berger, NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger, Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Deputy Director Frederick Reynolds, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), and Reps. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.).

Tuesday, Caucus participants will hear from Fannie Mae President and CEO Timothy Mayopoulos, NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), Reps. Robert Hurt (R-Va.), Michael Grimm (R-N.Y), Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.), Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), and Revolvis.com Partner Jason Roe.

Wednesday, Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and David Vitter (R-La.) will speak, along with MasterCard Head of U.S. Government Affairs & Vice President, Public Policy Tucker Foote. Several other lawmakers are also on the program, including Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), Gary Miller (R-Calif.), Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.), Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.), Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.), Dennis Ross (R-Fla.), Ed Royce (R-Calif.), and Brad Sherman (D-Calif.).

Other highlights of the caucus include recognition of the 2013 Paul Revere Award. The award recognizes the credit union grassroots activist of the year.
