Credit Union Student Choice to host fourth annual “Empower U” conference in Nashville

Credit Union Student Choice will host the fourth installment of its popular Empower U conference Sept. 26-27, 2018, at the Hilton Nashville Downtown. First held in Boston in 2015, Empower U is the first and only learning event in the credit union space to focus on education finance.

“Each year we take a close look at the relevant issues impacting credit unions and the student lending environment, and then we tailor our sessions to address those topics,” said Michael Weber, Chief Marketing Officer for Student Choice. “We’re thrilled with the diverse lineup of presentations and dynamic speakers we’ve assembled and are confident that attendees will walk away with actionable content that will help them improve and grow their lending programs.”

The conference kicks off Sept. 26 with client workshops led by Student Choice staff. Presentations will focus on portfolio performance, marketing support, and other timely topics. Generational expert Seth Mattison will return to deliver an opening keynote presentation this year, following a highly acclaimed session at the inaugural Empower U event in 2015.

The second day will feature a diverse line-up of expert speakers in the areas of higher education legislation, the current economic outlook for college graduates, insight into the consumer credit market, and much more. Highlights include:

  • The Legislative Landscape – What’s in Store for Higher Education Lending?
o Harrison Wadsworth, Principal, Bose Public Affairs Group
    o Kelly Lipinski, J.D. McGlinchey & Stafford
o Scott Patterson, President and CEO, Credit Union Student Choice
  • Economic Outlook . . . and the Impact on College Grads
o Jordan Van Rijn, Senior Economist, Credit Union National Association
  • Reserving for Loan Loss: A Practical Guide
o Frank Wilary, Principal and Co-Founder, Wilary Winn
  • Consumer Credit Point of View
o Kristen Bataillon – Senior Manager, TransUnion

“Empower U continues to evolve based on feedback we’ve received from attendees over the last several years,” said Jim Holt, Chief Development Officer for Student Choice. “We’ve made to sure create an event that delivers valuable content related to student lending strategy, but also provides attendees with takeaways that can be applied to overarching credit union initiatives.”

Empower U is open to all credit unions. More information and conference registration are available at www.empoweru.studentchoice.org/.
