Credit unions ready to get their geek on in KnockOut 2014!

PSCU’s 3rd annual 24-hour innovation summit expands to 3 locations nationwide

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (July 3, 2014) — For the third consecutive year, PSCU is inviting credit unions to bring their leading-edge thinkers to compete in an innovation marathon called KnockOut. This year’s event will see triple the attendance with not one, but three locations across the country. The 24-hour competition will welcome credit unions to PSCU’s MōPRO Innovation Labs at each of its three campus locations on September 11 and 12, 2014. The KnockOut 2014 event gives designated teams 24 hours to create a usable proof of concept of a solution that drives innovation – delivering ideas that create real value for credit unions members.

“Collaborative innovation is how today’s credit union leaders will ensure their ongoing relevance, growth and prosperity,” said Michael Kelly, PSCU President and CEO. “Credit unions can achieve more working together. That’s why we’re extending our invitation beyond PSCU’s Member-Owners to all credit unions this year, and we are opening up all of our campus locations. PSCU wants to show that great ideas are everywhere, and we can harness their power for the benefit of the entire industry, if we work together.”

The KnockOut concept was inspired by hackathons — typically all-night contests where technology teams prototype an innovative product that is presented to a panel of judges. For KnockOut 2014, the credit union teams will present prototypes that demonstrate function, feasibility, industry impact, time to market, cost and ROI to the event’s judges. Judges will select two semi-finalists from each location (six total), and PSCU and credit union employees will later vote online to rank the champions.

The winning ideas from PSCU’s previous two KnockOut events included a mobile app that empowers members to report their cards lost or stolen; and a switch kit solution that consumers can use to transfer their account relationships to a credit union. The Lost/Stolen Card App was officially launched to the market at MoPRO 2014 and the Switch Kit is currently in development.

PSCU KnockOut 2014 is open to all PSCU employees and employees of any credit union. Participating teams can register at www.pscu.com/knockout and select the PSCU campus nearest their location: St. Petersburg, FL; Phoenix, AZ; or Allen Park, MI.
