CUCollaborate hosting webinar to present credit union board composition research

Findings will highlight the impact a board of directors’ makeup has on institutional performance

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 29, 2022) — On Tuesday, September 13, from 2–3 PM ET, CUCollaborate will host a free webinar to present the findings from research on credit union board composition and its impact on institutional performance. The project was sponsored by Jill Nowacki, President and CEO of Humanidei, and carried out by CUCollaborate Chief Economist Luis Dopico, PhD, and Analyst Moriah Taylor.

The event will coincide with the publication of the report itself, which is titled “Credit Union Boards of Directors: Board Size, Gender, Race, and Institutional Performance, 2012–2021.” The webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and will feature the report’s authors presenting their findings before taking questions from the audience.

Specifically, the research quantifies the current state and recent evolution of credit union boards of directors in terms of size, women’s representation, and minority representation. Further explored are the links between board composition and several key measures of member-centric and financial institutional performance including, for instance, loan delinquency, which is interpreted as a measure of credit inclusion, asset growth, ROA, and capital ratios.

“We partnered with CUCollaborate to support this research into diversity on credit union boards of directors, to measure the current state of board diversity and to identify opportunities for improvement, as credit unions continue to live their mission while meeting social and financial goals,” explained Ms. Nowacki. “This research is critical in helping to identify the impact of board diversity on credit unions’ ability to effectively serve the needs of their whole communities.”

Underscoring the project’s mission, she added the aim was to understand if credit union boards are still working as they were initially intended to and, in particular, “Do the boards of directors at credit unions today represent the diverse memberships served by those credit unions? Are credit unions with diverse representation that reflects their membership delivering strong financial performance, relevant products and services, and staying competitive in a fast-changing marketplace?”

For insight into these questions and more, confirm your spot now by registering for the webinar through Microsoft Teams.
