CUNA Mutual Group appointed Kevin D. Johnson to its board of directors replacing director Bert J. Hash, Jr., who is retiring after 13 years of service.
Johnson is president and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union, Tampa, Fla. He has spent more than three decades in the financial services industry, all at Suncoast, which serves more than 747,000 members. Suncoast is the largest credit union by asset size in Florida and the 12th largest in the U.S.
Before being named president and CEO in 2016, Johnson spent 16 years as the credit union’s senior vice president and then executive vice president and chief information officer. As CIO, he oversaw the creation of Suncoast’s online mobile banking capabilities, including a robust mobile app developed and launched internally featuring a completely online application process. His vast technical background encompasses information technology, cyber security, data analytics, digital delivery and operations.

Johnson serves on the boards of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, Southeastern Credit Union Foundation, MEMBERS Development Company and Hillsborough Education Foundation. He received his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Tampa and holds the Credit Union National Association’s Certified Credit Union Executive designation. Johnson and his family reside in Tampa.

Trunzo lauded Hash, retired president/CEO, Municipal Employees Credit Union of Baltimore, Inc, for his many contributions to CUNA Mutual Group. “Bert was a tremendous asset to our board of directors for so many years. I want to thank him for his leadership, support and guidance during his tenure.” Trunzo said.
