Dane County Credit Union launches youth financial literacy program

OSHKOSH, WI (September 5, 2014) — Chatter Yak! LLC, a marketing and advertising cooperative for credit unions announces the launch of the first Next Gen Outreach program in Madison, WI, the credit union capitol of the world. Dane County Credit Union, a Madison-based financial cooperative, realized that many young adults today are not receiving proper education when it comes to personal finance, and has decided to take matters into their own hands by providing a solution.

Dane County Credit Union’s Next Gen Outreach program, a franchise offered by Chatter Yak, is designed to educate young adults ages 15 to 25 on money management skills, professional development and the importance of investing their time and talents in their community.

When asked about the launch of the program, CEO Jon Lowrey had this to say: “I’m really excited to provide financial education in a fun and engaging way to a group who really needs it, and that’s teenagers. This program reaches out to this age group and speaks their language. The lessons learned will be with them for life.”

Dane County’s Next Gen members will have the opportunity to apply to be a part of an Advisory Board that will help the credit union’s Board of Directors gain insight into what young adults want from a financial. Additionally, a spokesperson for their Next Gen program will be chosen by his or her peers in the group. Bonnie Rosenmeier, VP of Marketing and Member Service says “The group’s ‘Voice’ is a unique opportunity for a dynamic young adult, giving him or her the chance to shine and be a leader.”

Dane County Credit Union will begin a search among the Next Gen participants for their “Voice”. The “Voice” will be a young adult who shows leadership and initiative. This person will blog, tweet and share their experiences with young people in the Dane County community. The Voice will also be featured on their website www.nextgencu.com/dccu.

Co-founder of Chatter Yak, Bryce Roth shared this, “Credit unions do a great job of educating members and many are socially conscientious. With our Next Gen Outreach program, credit unions can pair these two practices, spread the word about their credit union, and attract critically important Gen-Y members.” For more information, visit www.chatteryak.com/services/nextgen/.
