DCCU announces launch of charitable foundation

WAYNESBORO, VA (April 10, 2024) — DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) is proud to announce the launch of the DCCU Cares Foundation, an independent non-profit organization created to formalize and expand the longstanding charitable efforts of DCCU. The DCCU Cares Foundation will accomplish its purpose by extending its ability to empower individual success and self-sufficiency through financial education and resources.

The DCCU Cares Foundation partners with service providers who align with and contribute to our key philanthropic focus areas of Financial Wellness, Promotion of Financial Education, Member and Community Engagement, and Community Partnerships. DCCU’s Annual Scholarship program will now be part of the Foundation. The awarding of $1,000 scholarships in 33 eligible categories, has resulted in over $480K in scholarship funds gifted to students since 1995. The Foundation is proud to continue this legacy. Most importantly, the financial education and coaching programs for employees, members and the public that are the hallmark of DCCU, will continue to grow under the Foundation.

Leadership and administration of the Foundation will be provided by Margaret Hersh, Executive Director, formerly DCCU Community and Business Development, AVP. In her role, Hersh will oversee all aspects of the Foundation operations, and continue to manage Community Development functions. She will be joined by Sarah Landram in the role of Financial Wellness Program Manager. Landram will continue to serve as a resource and partner within all areas of the DCCU Cares Foundation to foster collaboration and engagement and directly impact the entire financial wellness experience for members, employees, and community stakeholders.

A DCCU Cares Foundation Board of Directors has been appointed to govern the organization, in affiliation with DuPont Community Credit Union. “The DCCU Cares Foundation goes beyond access to beneficial and affordable financial products and services, by building meaningful relationships through thoughtful strategic philanthropy. By leveraging our existing community involvement in the promotion of financial wellness, we enrich the communities we serve” said DuPont Community Credit Union President and CEO and DCCU Cares Foundation Chair, Steve Elkins.

The aim of the DCCU Cares Foundation is to advance our community’s financial health in inspiring ways both presently and for many years to come. As 2024 unfolds, additional and exciting Foundation opportunities will be announced. For more information visit mydccu.com/foundation or contact Margaret Hersh at 540-946-3200 x3361.
