DCUC announces 2021 Hall of Honor inductees

WASHINGTON, DC (July 2, 2021) — This year, two extraordinary individuals were selected to join the Defense Credit Union Council’s Hall of Honor.

Lt. Col. USMC (Ret.) George Hoagland was selected for his 53 exemplary years on Frontwave Credit Union’s Board of Directors and support of DCUC over the years. Hoagland served as Frontwave’s Chairman of the Board twice and on every board committee, helping to guide the credit union through three mergers and navigate challenging times. Hoagland has been a pillar of the Frontwave community and epitomizes what it means to be a true gentleman. He has attended more than a dozen DCUC conferences and dedicated himself to serving the military community and their financial needs. His induction into the DCUC Hall of Honor follows his being the initial recipient of the Frontwave Credit Union Lifetime Achievement Award.

David Sprague has served as Hanscom Federal Credit Union’s President/CEO since 1996. As President/CEO, Sprague has worked to continuously develop and strengthen lasting ties with the military community at Hanscom Air Force Base. His devotion to the military and veteran community across Massachusetts helped lead to the creation of Hanscom’s Charitable Foundation in 2012, which provides support to many military and veteran programs that work to improve lives. Additionally, he has built strong relationships with DCUC and other defense credit unions and is always willing to share his knowledge to help the defense credit union community succeed.

Sprague and Hoagland will be inducted into the DCUC Hall of Honor alongside the 2020 honorees:  Richard “Dick” Ardisson (Abound CU), Brigadier General Frank Cardile (Andrews FCU), and Mary Ann Melchers (ABNB FCU) at the DCUC Annual Conference in Naples, Florida. The honorees were selected by the DCUC Hall of Honor Committee and DCUC looks forward to formally recognizing their achievements and celebrating their dedication to the defense credit union movement in person.

The DCUC Hall of Honor was established in 2000 as a means of recognizing those individuals whose exceptional contributions over the years have made a significant difference to DCUC and the defense credit union community. This prestigious award highlights the outstanding accomplishments of leaders, volunteers, management and staff alike, whose efforts and endless support of the credit union movement and DCUC epitomize the Council’s values and philosophy of “Serving Those Who Serve Our Country.”
