DCUC’s Annual Conference begins

WASHINGTON, DC (August 3, 2022) — DCUC welcomed attendees to the foothills of San Antonio, Texas for its 2022 Annual Conference. This annual event brings together leaders from across the credit union industry for the latest updates on issues affecting credit unions serving our nation’s military and veteran communities.

“We look forward to our Annual Conference each year,” said Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO. “While every conference and event is a great opportunity to reconnect and recommit to our collective mission, there is something special about our Annual Conference. Every year, we strive to provide more value to our members and this year is no different. I’m excited for our members to experience what we’ve been working on for the last year. It promises to be a conference to remember.”

DCUC kicked off the week with its 2022 Annual VADM Vincent Lascara Golf Tournament. The golf tournament also serves as the start of DCUC’s Conference with a Purpose, which this year supports the Armed Services YMCA.  DCUC once again partnered with Filene Research Institute to host back-to-back events. Filene’s research event “Building your Future through Infrastructures and Ecosystems” was held on Monday and Tuesday, where attendees heard from experts from Filene’s Centers for Data Analytics, Emerging Technology and Community Social Impact.

DCUC’s first formal session was its advocacy update. John McKechnie, Senior Partner, Total Spectrum joined DCUC’s President Anthony Hernandez to give attendees an update on legislative and regulatory initiatives and concerns. Hernandez invited everyone interested to join the quarterly Military Advocacy Committee meetings for more updates.

Following the Advocacy Update, the Department of Defense Credit Union of the Year Awards were presented. The Department of the Army recognized Navy Federal CU at USAG Fort Meade. The Department of the Navy awarded Navy Federal CU at Naval Base San Diego, CA and Frontwave CU at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA. The Department of the Air Force selected Travis CU at Travis Air Force ase, CA and Global CU at Fairchild Air Force Base, WA.

Tuesday concluded with a networking event for attendees, sponsors, and guests hosted by the Armed Forces Financial Network. Everyone broke out their best cowboy boots for a fun evening of country music and relaxing before the first full day of the conference.
