Digital Marketing Forum deemed a success for Corporate Central

MILWAUKEE, WI (November 14, 2019) — Credit union professionals from the Midwest gathered last Thursday at The Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells for Corporate Central’s first ever Digital Marketing Forum. Speakers covered topics including social listening and online brand reputation, mobile marketing strategies, paid search advertising strategies (geofencing, digital display, and online video/radio), digital storytelling, and gamification.

“Providing relevant educational offerings and helping our members grow and succeed is very important to us,” said Jesse Kohl, Senior Vice President Corporate Development at Corporate Central. “This new conference was designed to help credit unions prosper in this ever-changing digital age. We appreciate all of the presenters and panelists for their time, insights, and advice, and we equally appreciate all the attendees that came together to share their experiences and knowledge.”

Speakers and topics covered included:

  • Dr. Liz Gross, Founder & CEO of Campus Sonar, talked about social listening and the importance of collecting and analyzing relevant online conversations from places like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, blogs, and forums.
  • Kip Karstedt, President and Media & Creative Director of Credit Union Story, presented two breakout sessions. In the morning session, he discussed effective strategies to help credit unions reach new members and re-target existing members using Google and YouTube search; display, video and remarketing; Facebook and Instagram ads and boosted posts; Pandora and Spotify radio; video and display campaigns; and geofencing strategies intended to build foot traffic and web traffic. In the afternoon session, Karstedt talked about storytelling techniques and how credit unions can build their brands by creating messages that connect with and influence people.
  • Becky Summers, Strategic Advisor at Raddon, A Fiserv Company, talked about how to interpret and understand data in a way that allows credit unions to market to the right people at the right time.
  • Ryan McMillan, Director of Technology Solutions at Emergifi, presented the marketing toolset that Corporate Central and its family of CUSOs are using each day to expand social reach, help staff become more productive, and ultimately increase membership and sales. Tools he discussed included a CRM system, online meetings and webinars, email marketing and automation, documentation, project management and planning, content management, and team collaboration.
  • Matt Davis, Founder of gameFI, talked about the gamification of financial services marketing. Attendees were encouraged to find ways to build fun, motivating, and addictive principles into marketing efforts to engage more members.

Lunch, sponsored by Campus Sonar, allowed attendees to engage in discussion over a selected digital marketing topic while networking with peers. Attendees were able to select a seat based on which discussion group they found the most interesting or valuable to them.

A panel discussion, facilitated by Kip Karstedt, was also held the evening prior to the conference in conjunction with a drinks and desserts reception sponsored by Fiserv. The panelists included Paul Kurth, Digital Branch Manager at Connexus Credit Union; Robin Marohn, VP Marketing & Business Development at Heartland Credit Union; and Sonny Schaar, Marketing Manager at Premier Financial Credit Union.
