EasCorp hosts Forty-First Annual Meeting and Partnership Conference
BURLINGTON, MA (May 13, 2019) — More than 160 people attended the 41st Annual Meeting and Partnership Conference of Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union (EasCorp) on Thursday, May 2, 2019, in Burlington Massachusetts. The Partnership Conference is co-hosted by EasCorp’s CUSO, Vertifi Software, LLC (Vertifi).
The Annual Meeting theme was Health, Wealth, and Happiness: A Credit Union Value Proposition and the program featured a presentation by Dr. Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology and cognitive science at Yale University. Dr. Santos has been cited by the New York Times and other major publications for her wildly popular class at Yale entitled “Psychology and the Good Life,” which she related to her credit union audience in an informative, instructive, and entertaining style. Other speakers included Jo Ann Barefoot, a former financial regulator and founder and CEO of Barefoot Innovation Group, on the need for disruptive regulation innovation as technology continues to transform the financial services sector.
In addition to elections, EasCorp’s members received written and verbal management reports from President/CEO, Jane C. Melchionda and Vertifi President, Christopher E. Smith. Each summarized her and his respective company’s accomplishments during 2018 and highlighted key undertakings for the current year. Mark Cochran, President/CEO of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, Jim Regan, President/CEO of Digital Federal Credit Union, and David Sprague, President/CEO of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, were each elected to three-year terms on EasCorp’s Board of Directors. During the reorganization meeting that followed, Mr. Regan was re-elected Chairman of the Board of Directors. Denise Barstow, President/CEO of Granite State Credit Union was re-elected Vice-Chairman, and Mr. Sprague was re-elected Secretary of the Board of Directors.
EasCorp’s Annual Meeting and Partnership Conference also is the largest gathering of the year and celebration of the Credit Unions Kids at Heart community, consisting this past year of more than sixty (60) credit unions, twenty-two (22) 2019 Boston Marathon runners and their Boston Children’s Hospital patient partners, as well as numerous other supporters and friends. Credit Unions Kids at Heart raised approximately $540,000 during its most recent annual campaign, all of which was used to fund numerous pediatric neurological research projects. Dr. Scellig Stone, a pediatric neurologic surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital, addressed the audience on the status of research he is undertaking with funding provided by Credit Unions Kids at Heart, and the progress scientists are making around diagnosis and treatment for childhood seizures.
Credit Unions Kids at Heart also partnered last year with the Team Jack Foundation of Atkinson, Nebraska, which is dedicated to pediatric brain cancer research funding. Thanking Credit Unions Kids at Heart on behalf of the Foundation was board member Rex Burkhead, a star running back on the 2019 Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots football team. Burkhead notoriously made the winning touchdown run during overtime of the American Football Conference championship game against and at Kansas City, sending the Patriots to their 11th Super Bowl appearance. Burkhead greeted and posed for photographs with many of the guests following the EasCorp meeting.
