Erie Federal Credit Union Selects Momentum as its Design-Build Partner for New Headquarters Facility, Project to Add Millions of Dollars and New Jobs to Local Economy

ERIE, PA (August 15, 2013) — Today, Erie Federal Credit Union (Erie FCU) announced the selection of Momentum as its partner for the design and construction of its new headquarters facility.  Erie FCU plans to invest approximately $8 Million in the new facility, the majority of which will go back into the Erie economy through the use of local subcontractors on the project.  The facility will be located on the site of the former Glenwood Elementary School at 3503 Peach Street, a property Erie FCU purchased in February 2013 and expected to be completed in late 2014.

“This is the most significant investment Erie Federal Credit Union has ever made, and it is a reflection of our continued commitment to our members, our staff, and the Erie community” said Mary Beth Wilcher, Erie FCU’s Chief Executive Officer.  “We are excited to have selected a partner with such a strong history of helping credit unions develop successful facilities strategies, and who also shares our commitment to building a stronger local economy” she said.

Erie FCU purchased the former Glenwood School in February 2013 for $1.17 Million, generating additional tax revenue for the Erie School District, Erie County, and the City of Erie. The 1.8-acre property will become the new home for all of the credit union’s administrative functions, and will also include a full service branch.  “Our vision is to create an operations and corporate center that enhances Erie FCU’s visibility as a community focused financial leader. We plan to achieve this by providing world-class workspace that will attract and house the right employees with the skills and expertise to support our new growth initiatives and better serve our current members” Wilcher added.

Erie FCU has not yet determined if the existing school structure will be retro-fitted or razed, but will be working with Momentum to weigh its options and determine the most effective, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly way to proceed. “We are proud of our deep roots in Erie,” said Wilcher. “And now we will be giving back by using as many local subcontractors and others as we can to build a headquarters that represents Erie FCU’s growth in the community.”

Momentum will manage the project out of its Pittsburgh office and will work closely with Erie FCU’s Facilities Task Force on the development of a preferred vendor list that will be primarily comprised of Erie based businesses.  “We are excited about the opportunity to serve as a partner to Erie FCU on such a significant project for the credit union and the community at large” said Bob Saunders, EVP of Construction Services for Momentum.  “Erie FCU’s leadership has a clear vision for the future and we’re looking forward to helping them make it a reality” he added.
