Nominations Encouraged for Awards Presented at 25th Annual Dinner in Conjunction with CUNA GAC

Madison, Wis. – Denise Gabel, Chief Finance and Strategy Officer of the Filene Research Institute in Madison, Wis. has been named emcee of The National Credit Union Foundation Dinner Presenting the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards. The 25th annual dinner will take place on February 25, 2013 in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C.

Gabel succeeds Bob Schumacher, former CEO of MountainCrest CU in Arlington, Wash., who emceed the dinner for the past fifteen years and is now retired.

“Having worked with Denise over the past years, it is obvious to me that she is an excellent choice to carry on as emcee for this very important event,” said Schumacher.

“The Herb Wegner Memorial Awards is like the Academy Awards for credit unions and Bob certainly has very big shoes to fill,” said Gabel. “I’m deeply touched that the NCUF board and staff have selected me. Taking the stage to honor national efforts to drive innovation and recognize extraordinary leadership is an honor.”

Tickets for the upcoming dinner will be available in late fall. In the meantime, credit union supporters are encouraged to nominate individuals and organizations for the Herb Wegener Memorial Awards. Nominations need to be made by Friday, June 29 for the following awards:

  • Individual Achievement Award
  • Outstanding Organization/Program Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award

Nominations can come from individuals and/or organizations.  The following are the three steps needed to make a nomination:

  1. Complete the Wegner Awards nomination form on the National Credit Union Foundation website (www.ncuf.coop).
  2. Gather at least five letters of recommendation citing examples of the nominee’s achievements relevant to the award criteria.
  3. Send the nomination form and recommendation letters electronically to the National Credit Union Foundation by June 29.
