First Financial honored for Excellence in Marketing, Community Outreach, and Financial Literacy

LUTHERVILLE, MD (July 2, 2019) — Representatives from First Financial Federal Credit Unionattended the MD|DC Credit Union Association’s Annual Convention in Ocean City, Maryland June 2-4 and were honored to bring home three prestigious awards from the event. During the convention’s award luncheon, held on Monday, June 3, the MD|DC Credit Union Association recognized the accomplishments of individuals and credit unions through a variety of distinctive awards.

The Trailblazer Awards for Excellence in Marketing and Communications honor credit unions that creatively market and communicate products, services, and activities to members. First Financial took home the Best Special Project award, for credit unions with over $1 billion in assets, for their animated video marketing package which educates local business owners and human resource professionals how the credit union offers banking solutions for businesses and employees at a better value. The project also included a comprehensive, coordinating folder containing information about the credit union and membership benefits.

First Financial also won First Place for the State-level CUNA National Award, Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award, for credit unions with over $1 billion in assets. The award honors credit union involvement in community projects and activities other than personal finance education. The Association selected First Financial for this award because of the credit union’s extensive involvement in the “Power Hour” program for the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster (BGCW). First Financial presented a grant of $50,000 to BGCW and provided volunteers for the successful and life-changing after-school program, which provides tutoring and other academic support to students in a safe environment.

Lastly, First Financial’s student internship programs earned the State-level CUNA National Award, Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, which recognizes leadership within the credit union movement in youth and adult financial literacy. First Financial received Second Place for credit unions with over $1 billion in assets for their successful Information Technology Internship and High School Branch Internship, which has established six student-run branches at local high schools over the last 12 years. These programs provide students with unique employment and financial literacy skills. Additionally, the programs have aided students in transitioning into the workforce, with several of the interns going on to become employees of First Financial.
