Fitzsimons Credit Union announces two executive promotions

AURORA, CO (October 31, 2018) — Fitzsimons Credit Union is pleased to announce the promotion of Nina Myers to Senior Vice President and Elizabeth Rettig to Assistant Vice President of Risk Management, both effective October 1, 2018.

Nina Myers has been with Fitzsimons Credit Union for over five years. Originally hired as the Vice President of Lending in 2013, she was promoted to Vice President of Operations in October of 2014. A 16-year veteran of the credit union industry, Myers’ experience includes roles in lending, branch operations, and marketing.

Myers’ longevity in the industry stems from her passion to fulfill the mission of “People Helping People” and the Federal Credit Union Act’s commitment to making credit available “to people of small means.” That passion inspired Myers to establish a successful first-time buyer auto loan program and expand on Fitzsimons Credit Unions’ DREAMer loan program to help recent immigrants. As a result of these efforts, Fitzsimons Credit Union earned the Juntos Avanzamos designation from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and was awarded an Excellence in Lending Award from the CUNA Lending Council in 2017.

Myers is also a board member for the Denver Area Chapter of Credit Unions, Bank On Denver, the Adams County Community Services Block Grant Advisory Council, and she sits on the master committee of the local indirect lending CUSO, Credit Union Direct Connect.

Myers earned her BA in Humanities from the University of Colorado at Boulder and is currently attending Western CUNA Management School. She is also a Certified Credit Union Development Educator.

Elizabeth Rettig has been with Fitzsimons Credit Union for 7+ years. With 11 years of experience in the financial services industry and a background in fraud analytics and financial crime investigations, she was initially hired as a Risk Management/Fraud Specialist. Rettig was promoted to the position of Compliance and Risk Manager in June 2015. In that role, she took on loan portfolio risk management in addition to the fraud and compliance components of her previous role.

Rettig earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Certificate of Business from Indiana University. In July 2010, she became a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a globally recognized organization within the anti-fraud community, and earned her Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential in December 2010.

Through the Credit Union National Association’s certification programs, Rettig has since earned certificates as a Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS), and Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) in 2012 and 2014 respectively. To bolster her knowledge of consumer compliance and current industry fraud trends, and to further develop the credit union’s risk management program, she regularly participates in networking events, confers with peer experts, and she recently attended CUNA’s Regulatory Compliance School.

“Both Nina and Elizabeth are invaluable assets to this organization”, states President/CEO Robert Fryberger. “I know I can count on them to lead and serve for the good of the membership, the credit union, and community.”
