Foundation’s Twitter chat on senior citizens set for 6/8

On the heels of Older American’s month, the National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) is hosting a Twitter chat for credit unions on Wednesday, June 8th at 3 pm (CT). The Foundation invites credit unions to discuss their activities to improve and protect the financial lives of senior citizens.

“While older Americans are only a small percentage of the population, they account for almost 30% of fraud victims,” said Christopher Morris, Foundation Director of Communications. “Also, 39% of non-retirees have given little or no thought to financial planning for retirement and 31% have no retirement savings or pension. These are critical issues and the Foundation is looking forward to leading this discussion about how credit unions are making a difference in these areas.”

During the Twitter chat, credit unions and their staff are encouraged to share best practices and examples of their efforts to engage with older members, including special products/services, retirement planning, preventing and helping with frauds and scams, financial education and more.  CUNA Mutual Group will be featured in the Twitter chat as a special guest.
