Greylock’s Phillips earns CUNA Financial Counseling Designation

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 19, 2015) — Greylock Federal Credit Union announced that Maureen Phillips, who was recently named Member Financial Education Program Coordinator, has earned her designation as a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). The designation was earned through the CUNA Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) which develops credit union counseling professionals to guide members with financial education.

Greylock President Marilyn L. Sperling said, “As one of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI), part of our mission is to grow member financial education and financial literacy programs in the community. Maureen’s new role as Member Financial Education Program Coordinator and her recent CCUFC designation will strengthen the Credit Union’s financial education outreach.”

“The designation includes not only budgeting and credit principles, but also the psychology of counseling,” said Phillips. “Additionally, there was intensive study of collection and bankruptcy law, income tax preparation, insurance, investment and retirement strategies, and fraud and identity theft issues. I will be utilizing what I learned to work with our member service professionals to increase the availability of budget and credit assistance in the branches and in our member contact center.

Phillip’s CCUFC designation positions her to work with other Greylock managers to expand the Credit Union’s ongoing free Member Education Series seminars and programs in local schools. She is also creating a comprehensive financial counseling program to fulfill Greylock’s mission of improving the financial lives of Greylock’s members and their families.
