GTE raises over $30K for local financial literacy organization

TAMPA, FL (November 22, 2o13) — GTE Financial was a top fundraiser for Junior Achievement Tampa Bay’s annual Bowl-a-Thon, raising more than $30,000 to support Junior Achievement’s financial literacy programs in Tampa Bay public schools.

In addition to raising more than double what they did during last year’s Junior Achievement fundraiser through iPad and Lightning ticket raffles, bake sales, and luncheons, 116 GTE employees and their friends and families participated in Junior Achievement’s Bowl-a-Thon event at Pin Chasers Veterans in Tampa on Saturday, Nov. 9. The GTE team was joined by USF’s accounting fraternity Beta Alpha Psi for bowling and raised $1,800 towards GTE’s fundraising goal.

“Imparting and supporting financial literacy in the communities we serve is one of our credit union’s top initiatives,” says Joe Brancucci, GTE Financial’s president and CEO. “The knowledge and skills Junior Achievement gives to kids is essential to helping them make sound financial decisions as they grow up, and we believe this is the foundation for building not just fiscally healthier individuals, but also economically stronger communities.”

Driven solely by volunteers and fundraising efforts like the Bowl-a-Thon, the non-profit organization’s age-specific curriculum for grades K-12 reaches an estimated 90,000 students each year.
