Hanscom Federal Credit Union received three awards for its commitment to social responsibility by the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA). The credit union placed state-level first place in the $1 billion-plus asset categories for the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award, the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award, and the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award.
David Sprague, Hanscom FCU’s president and CEO, accepted the three awards on October 14 at the CCUA’s APEX 2021, an annual event that was held this year at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The Louise Herring Award commends credit unions that make exceptional efforts to include credit union philosophy in their daily operations and member service. Hanscom FCU won the award for its 3% balance transfer program, which was instituted to help members save money on their higher-interest credit cards during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Alphonse Desjardins Award was created to recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for youth and adults. This year’s award was given in recognition of Hanscom FCU’s partner relations team’s swift response during the pandemic by developing targeted financial education to help members and Select Employer Groups (SEGs) in need.
The Dora Maxwell Award honors credit unions for their charitable works in their communities. Hanscom FCU was commended for a timely and important anti-racism initiative that offered employees the opportunity to give matching gifts to organizations committed to social justice.
John Delcore, Hanscom FCU’s chairman of the board, said, “Hanscom FCU is always ready to help our members as well as those in our community who need access to resources that can get them through tough times. It might mean offering a better financial solution to ease the strain of debt, or to show our employees and community we care by contributing to organizations we believe in. We thank the CCUA for recognizing us this year.”
Hanscom FCU will represent Massachusetts in the national competition. National winners will be announced later in 2021.
