Hiway Credit Union Foundation awards $5,000 Community Impact Grant to urban boatbuilders

ST. PAUL, MN (August 2, 2022) — The Hiway Credit Union Foundation recently announced that Urban Boatbuilders is the first recipient of a $5,000 Hiway Foundation Community Impact Grant.

Urban Boatbuilders is a youth empowerment nonprofit in the Twin Cities Metro Area, that assists underserved youths to build success in their own lives through skill-building and hands-on education.

“Our Foundation was established to provide resources to enhance the overall wellness of our community and to support organizations whose values align with those of our Foundation. Urban Boatbuilders does exactly that. Their mission is centered around the youth by providing them the fundamentals to build life-long job skills that sets them up for success,” said Christine Cordell, Hiway Credit Union’s Senior Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness and Hiway Credit Union Foundation Board Chair. “We are honored to award Urban Boatbuilders with this grant. They are an organization that is truly a “change agent” within our community and are committed to making a lasting impact on our youth.”.

Through Urban Boatbuilders Apprenticeship Program, youth work in cohorts of peers to build boats along with skills that will prepare them for the modern work environment.

The Hiway Foundation Community Impact Grants are designated for charitable organizations whose work closely aligns with at least one of the Hiway Foundation’s five priority funding focus areas:

  • Community and Economic Development
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Housing
  • Hunger Relief and Healthy Eating Programs
  • Informal Education – Supporting life skills & financial well-being for all

Hiway Foundation Community Impact Grants range between $500 to $5000. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and grants are awarded based on the applicant potential community impact and the organization’s eligibility and needs. Grants will be awarded until all available grant funds have been expended.
