JACKSONVILLE, FL (August 30, 2018) — Jax Federal Credit Union celebrates Blake Lancaster as its 2018 scholarship recipient. Lancaster, a 2016 graduate of Paxon School for Advanced Studies, is a junior at the University of Central Florida. The $1,000 scholarship will support his continued work toward earning a degree in biology.
Jax Federal Credit Union received more than 40 applications for this year’s scholarship contest. Applicants had to submit an entry form along with a 500-word blog post, including their best financial tip. Blake’s post stood out to the Jax Federal Credit Union team because of his tip:
“There is perhaps no financial tool I use more than the humble budget. In the general sense, it helps prevent oneself from overspending in certain predetermined areas, but budgeting is also a lesson in maintaining a balanced mindset when it comes to money. I didn’t really think about how I handled my money until I started relying on my own source of income. I learned that it’s important to avoid spending too liberally but I should also allow myself to enjoy the fruits of my labor from time to time.”

All Jax Federal Credit Union members who are in good standing and enrolled in a degree program at an accredited technical program, college or university are eligible to apply for the credit union’s annual scholarship contest.
