Justice Federal Credit Union stands ready to offer special assistance

CHANTILLY, VA (January 17, 2018) — With the threat of a Federal Government shutdown just days away, Justice Federal Credit Union stands ready to offer special assistance in the form of unsecured, low interest rate loans and deferred payments to all Members of the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security in the event a shutdown occurs.

The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate have until midnight on Friday, January 19, 2018 to pass either an appropriations bill or an additional continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown. Should negotiations collapse, most federal agencies would close and hundreds of thousands government workers would be furloughed.

“We are here to take care of our Members, and stand ready to offer special assistance should the government shutdown― it’s our promise,” said Peter Sainato, President & CEO.

Members confronted with a shutdown or furlough may apply for a Special Assistance Loan, unsecured up to $5,000 at an annual rate of 0% for the first 90 days. After that time, the rate will convert to 4.90% for a term of 24-months. The loan amount is based on the Member’s net pay deposit, with direct deposit required. Members may defer their first loan payment for up to 60 days.

Members in good standing with existing Justice Federal Consumer Loans, or Credit cards, may request to defer payments on loans, and request assistance with a Justice Federal First Mortgage. In addition, Members with a non-IRA Share Certificate may withdraw funds with no early withdrawal penalty.

Justice Federal encourages all Members to refinance their high interest rate debt, whether it is auto loans, consumer loans, or credits cards that they may be carrying with other creditors. By refinancing with the Credit Union, they not only reduce their monthly expenses, but can also defer their first payment for up to 90 days allowing them to keep more money in their pocket.

The Credit Union will make every effort to work with Members who may find themselves struggling financially as a result of a Federal government shutdown or furlough. New Members are welcome to join the Credit Union, and must meet current underwriting standards to qualify for the Special Assistance Loan. To learn more visit www.jfcu.org.

Members should contact the Credit Union directly for special requests, eligibility, restrictions and qualifications and may apply for the Special Assistance Loan online at www.jfcu.org
