Kindness Rocks DCU for World Kindness Day

Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) and its employees are helping to encourage kindness in recognition of World Kindness Day on November 13th.

DCU has partnered with Massachusetts-based The Kindness Rocks Project™, which has become a global movement, to unite people and encourage them to showcase creativity by painting inspirational messages on rocks to share with others. The goal is to inspire individuals to lift each other up through simple acts of kindness and positive affirmations.

“Simple acts of kindness connect us all to one another and that is the goal of my project because one message at just the right moment can change someone’s entire day, outlook or life” says Megan Murphy, founder and creator of the movement.

The Kindness Rocks Project™ has been used as an internal team-building activity for several national companies. DCU took it a step further by engaging the community in rock-painting workshops. For the 1800 rock kits purchased for DCU team members, an additional 1800 rock kits were donated to community organizations.

“The decision for DCU to partner with the Kindness Rocks Project™ was an easy one to make,” says Jane Fontaine, Senior Vice President of Human Resources & Training at DCU. “As an organization, we pride ourselves on living out our guiding principles of the DCU Way – People Come First, Do the Right Thing and Make a Difference.  This activity has been a great way to work with local community organizations and connect our employees in our current hybrid work environment, all while spreading positive messages of caring and hope.”

Throughout the fall, DCU has hosted hands-on workshops for children at area community organizations, such as several area Boys & Girls Clubs and the Wily Network.

“"DCU has found a project that helps the kids in Marlborough and Hudson focus on how words make a difference," says Chris Duane, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest. "We can all take a lesson from the Kindness Rocks Project™, filling the world with more compassion and respect."

With members located across the United States, DCU created a webpage to help encourage others to participate in spreading kindness on their own, no matter where they call home.
