LAFCU opens applications for $3,000 scholarship essay contest to help adult women achieve career goals

LANSING, MI (July 11, 2018) — LAFCU is accepting applications for the 2018 Women Helping Educate Every Lady (W.H.E.E.L.) scholarship essay contest. It is for women who are pursuing education needed to enter or re-enter the workforce or to advance in their careers.

Each of three winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Lansing Community College (LCC) 2018 fall semester.

The entry deadline is Saturday, July 21. Applications are available online at www.lafcu.com/resources/scholarships.

“Women often put their education and careers on hold due to family obligations,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer. “Their success in the workplace is important to achieving their personal goals, and vital for a diverse workforce and a healthy economy.”

She says that a W.H.E.E.L. scholarship is ideal for the woman who needs a few classes to complete a degree or to become licensed or certified for a new occupation.

Winners will be determined by their one-page essay about their new career choice or advancement goal, inspiration for pursuing this new goal, and why they want to pursue it now.

Applicants do not need to be LAFCU members, but they must live, work or attend church or school in Michigan, which is LAFCU’s geographical service area.

Entries may be uploaded via www.lafcu.com or mailed to LAFCU, 106 N. Marketplace Blvd., Lansing 48917, Attn: Marketing. For more information, visit www.lafcu.com, or call 517.622.6600 or 800.748.0228.
