LCUL announces Marlon Owens as first-ever Emerging Leader Award winner

HARAHAN, LA (August 10, 2021) — The Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL) presented the first-ever Emerging Leader Award to Marlon Owens of Ouachita Valley FCU during the League’s Annual Meeting & Convention on August 6 in New Orleans, LA. The Emerging Leader Program recognizes the achievements of exceptional individuals who consistently integrate themselves into the industry through development, service, and engagement.

Marlon is recognized for successfully producing the credit union’s instant messaging platform, increasing interdepartmental cross training programs, revising loan policies to ease restrictions, and having an integral role in his credit union’s Box-less Employee Think Team. Above all, Marlon has had a tremendous impact on the attitude and production of the credit union’s lending team. Outside the industry, Marlon has dedicated more than 15 years to volunteering with the West Ouachita Youth Sports Association (WOYSA) in a number of capacities.
“It is important for us to elevate the profiles of individuals paving the way and provide opportunities such as this to strengthen and amplify their leadership skills. Marlon embodies everything this award represents,” said Lacey Weaver, Senior Vice President. “We look forward to witnessing his emergence as not only a leader in the movement but as a role model for future influencers of the industry.”
Owens was selected from seven Emerging Leader finalists who represented the elite among the promising credit union professionals across the state of Louisiana. League directors as well as out of state industry leaders evaluated all nominees to determine who would be represented in the statewide competition. The seven finalists received a full scholarship to LCUL’s 2021 Annual Meeting & Convention. Owens receives a full scholarship to CUNA’s Emerging Leader Institute, an educational event designed to help credit union leaders develop effective management techniques.
