LSCU presents annual awards

Outstanding credit unions recognized for excellence as financial institutions/Individuals recognized for commitment to credit union movement

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) presented its annual awards at the 2019 Southeast Credit Union Conference and Expo in Orlando, Fla., in June. The honors recognize credit unions in Alabama and Florida, as well as professionals and volunteers who have shown outstanding achievement in 2018.

Credit union honorees who have made outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the credit union movement among credit unions in three categories based on asset sizes include:

  • Credit Union of the Year more than $500 million: Avadian Credit Union – Alabama
  • Credit Union of the Year $100 Million to $500 million: Guardians Credit Union – Florida
  • Credit Union of the Year up to $100 million: Calhoun Liberty Employees Credit Union – Florida

Individuals recognized for their work in exemplifying the cooperative spirit of “people helping people” and advancing the credit union movement are:

  • Volunteer of the Year: Larry Stapleton – The Infirmary Federal Credit Union – Alabama
  • YP of the Year: Abby Boburka, IBMSECU – Florida
  • Professional of the Year: Ola Anise, Azalea City Credit Union – Alabama
  • Distinguished Service Award: Hillard Sparks, CEO, Valley Credit Union – Alabama

“The LSCU applauds these top credit unions for their work in service to their members and for their outstanding commitment to bettering their communities through financial donations and volunteerism,” said LSCU & Affiliates President/CEO Patrick La Pine. “The individuals we recognize are an elite group of hardworking professionals who give generously of their time and talents in service to credit unions. We appreciate these role models and what they mean to credit union members and to the industry as a whole.”
