MD|DC Credit Union Association recognizes 10 years of leadership under CEO Bratsakis

COLUMBIA, MD (October 14, 2021) — The MD|DC Credit Union Association is recognizing the 10-year anniversary of President and CEO John Bratsakis who has led the organization since October 2011. His collective experience as a credit union CEO, an executive of a large credit union and chair of a state credit union league, enabled Bratsakis to bring a unique leadership perspective to the position.

“On behalf of the Board, thank you for making the MD|DC Credit Union Association such a successful organization through your leadership, vision, and hard work over the past ten years,” said MD|DC Credit Union Association Board Chair and NIH FCU President and CEO Rick Wieczorek. “We are proud of what you have accomplished during your tenure and the positive difference you have had on our affiliate credit unions and their members. We look forward to serving the credit union movement with you for many more years to come.”

To help member credit unions compete and thrive in the financial marketplace, Bratsakis established four core areas that the Association is committed to delivering on: advocacy, education, communication, and collaboration.

Under Bratsakis’ leadership, some key accomplishments in those areas include:

Advanced the DC Credit Union Act of 2020, allowing credit unions to be chartered by the District for the first time in over 55 years.
Established a partnership with Georgetown University in 2020 to offer a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certification program.
Collaborated with two credit union leagues in 2015 to establish Plexcity, a back-office cooperative which now serves 15 leagues and 8 other organizations.
Led a successful rebranding of the Association in 2013.

“It has been an honor to work side by side with John in his role as League President,” said Diana Dykstra, President and CEO, California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and Chair of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues. “I will always cherish most our collaboration in standing up Plexcity when everyone else thought we were crazy. John, your contributions in the credit union movement have been exceptional. Thank you and happy 10^th anniversary.”

Bratsakis is dedicated to giving back to the credit union movement that he has served for over 30 years. He is a board member of League InfoSight, Plexcity and CU Risk Intelligence, a compliance solution for credit unions. He is currently Chair of Credit Union Miracle Day, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and Credit Unions for Kids. Bratsakis earned the Credit Union Development Educator designation in 2020.

Prior to joining the MD|DC Credit Union Association, Bratsakis was Senior Vice President of Baxter Credit Union in Vernon Hills, Illinois. He also served on the Illinois Credit Union League and Service Corporation Board of Directors for over 10 years, serving as Chair from 2008 to 2010. Bratsakis was also President & CEO of Community Trust Credit Union in Gurnee, Illinois.
