MemberTree Consultancy’s community challenge helps two communities save $2 million in interest savings

FARGO, ND (August 25, 2014) — MemberTree Consultancy, an H2M company, has helped credit union members in Atlanta, Ga., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, save more than $2 million in interest savings over the past eight months through the Community Challenge program.

MemberTree’s Community Challenge program is designed to help credit union members save money by consolidating or refinancing current loans that are with other financial institutions. This then builds a community-wide interest savings program that has an interest savings goal in mind, which when achieved, triggers a predetermined donation to local charities by the credit union running the Community Challenge program.

“Everyone wins with this campaign,” said Dan Altenbernd, MemberTree COO. “The credit unions gain new members, those members save money, the local charities get a much-needed cash donation and communities are united in a worthy cause,” he adds.

Eight credit unions across the country have chosen to implement the Community Challenge this year; those who have completed the interest-saving campaign, including Collins Community Credit Union and Pinnacle Credit Union, exceeded their goals.

Bay Area Credit Union in Ohio is currently halfway through their campaign and is very pleased with their progress.

“Ever since interest rates have plummeted, we needed to generate an increase in our loan growth. We’ve always been very community-minded and felt this was a perfect fit.
