Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union shared the love for pets by ‘giving back’ to the Humane Society of Macomb

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (March 3, 2015) — As part of the “Year of Giving Back” program created to commemorate its 60th anniversary, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) partnered with the Humane Society of Macomb in February to encourage volunteerism and support animal adoption.

Throughout the month, the MSGCU-Humane Society of Macomb partnership strengthened bonds between people and pets. The association also raised awareness of pet adoption services to members visiting the MSGCU Shelby Township branch.

In addition to donating needed supplies to the Humane Society, staff from MSGCU’s Shelby Township branch volunteered weekends there.  In the branch, staff displayed photos of their pets to encourage members to consider the benefits of having pets and to spark conversation about their own furry friends. Members have reported that they adopted pets as a result of MSGCU’s collaboration.

On Saturday, February 28, MSGCU made a donation to the Humane Society of Macomb which included, food and various pet supplies to be utilized for “starter kits” for families when they adopt an animal and for the facility itself.  (See attached photo.)

“MSGCU encourages everyone to see where there is a need and fill it,” said Justin Goodell, Branch Manager of the MSGCU Shelby Township branch. “The partnership with the Humane Society of Macomb was ideal because we got to spend time doing something we love: helping pets find new homes and helping our members find new ‘best friends.’”

During each month of the “Year of Giving Back,” MSGCU supports a not-for-profit organization based in Southeast Michigan. The new MSCGU initiative began January, 2015. Each month during the year, one of the MSGCU credit union branches partners directly with a not-for-profit organization in their local community to support a program that serves the community. The partnerships are designed to help the local programs and organizations better complete their own missions of service.

The next ‘Year of Giving Back’ collaboration will feature an initiative with Vision Hope, in partnership with the MSGCU branch in St. Clair Shores.
