Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) Announces Long-term Financial Services Partnership with Oakland University

MSUFCU strengthens existing partnership with the Oakland University community.

EAST LANSING, MI (June 26, 2013) MSU Federal Credit Union has had a longstanding relationship with the Oakland University (OU) community since the late 1950s, when OU, then part of Michigan State University, was created and employees were first eligible for membership at MSUFCU. This enhanced relationship will allow the Credit Union to strengthen its more than 50 year partnership and commitment within the community.

Through the partnership with OU, MSUFCU will establish an Oakland University Credit Union (OUCU) trade name identity for the financial services at OU. MSUFCU’s commitment to OU is valued at nearly $5 million over 10 years and will help support a $25,000 endowed student scholarship, $25,000 Dean’s Choice Grant Program, variety of signature sponsorships, in-kind marketing, ATM locations on campus, operating branch in the Oakland Center, financial education, and more. In addition to the new branch in the Oakland Center, the OU Branch of MSUFCU at 3265 Five Points Drive will remain open and will also be identified as OUCU.

Patrick McPharlin, MSUFCU President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “At MSUFCU, it’s our mission to provide superior service while assisting members and employees to achieve financial security, their goals, and ultimately, their dreams. This new opportunity will allow us to continue our mission at Oakland University Credit Union, and provide the OU students, faculty, and community with the right tools and resources to help them achieve those financial goals.”

MSU Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest university-based credit union, offers a full range of personal- and business-related financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families worldwide in addition to a variety of select employee groups. Founded in 1937 by a few MSU professors and employees, MSUFCU now has twelve branches, over 175,000 members, more than $2.4 billion in assets, and over 515 employees.
