MSGCU wins MCUL and MCUF awards for pandemic efforts

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (March 15, 2021)

Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is pleased to announce they have been recognized as the winner of two prestigious awards: the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) 2021 Innovation Award and the Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) 2021 Credit Union Difference in a Crisis Award.

These awards recognize MSGCU’s work in supporting their members, team members, and the community during the pandemic. These award-winning efforts include:

  • Providing COVID relief solutions that assisted members financially impacted by the pandemic, including 0% interest relief loans totaling more than $869,000, skip-a-pay options, loan extensions, credit limit increases, waived fees, back-to-school loans for virtual learning needs, and more.

  • Assisting 137 members in applying for over $6.3M in Small Business Association Paycheck Protection Program loans.

  • Donating $10,000 to support the distribution of face shields to first responders, which was matched with a grant from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation through their Community Crisis Support Grant program to provide a total of $20,000 toward this effort.

  • Donating $32,800 to support locally owned eateries and businesses through business boosting initiatives including CU Lunch Local, Macomb is Open, and Give the Gift of Local.

  • Providing virtual consumer education for members and the community.
  • Engaging team members through increased communications, activities to stay connected, and volunteer efforts to help our community.

“During an especially challenging year, this recognition is particularly special for us,” said Ann Jones, Vice President Marketing and Business Development. “It recognizes our efforts to quickly and continually innovate and activate where it is needed most to assist our members, team members and community. It’s a true testament to our mission and that we are at our best when we are helping others.”

The MCUL Innovation Award recognizes credit unions that have demonstrated true innovation in the last 12 months. The annual award recognizes three credit unions, based on asset size, for innovative thinking, action and community involvement. MSGCU is in the large asset category of credit unions with assets equal to or more than $400 million.

“MCUL and MCUF are proud to recognize MSGCU as an exemplary Michigan credit union of 2020,” said MCUL President/CEO Dave Adams. “Winning both the MCUL Innovation Award and MCUF Credit Union Difference in a Crisis Award is a testament to a credit union that, in the face of incredible challenges, found ways to not only keep growing their own operations, but also help the communities around come out of this crisis strong.”

The MCUF Difference in a Crisis Award celebrates outstanding crisis response activities that helped Michigan families, businesses and communities thrive during the challenges of the 2020 pandemic.
