MSUFCU pays it forward to the community in 2014

EAST LANSING, MI (January 27, 2015) — Patrick McPharlin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MSU Federal Credit Union, is pleased to share the ways in which Credit Union was able to make a difference in the Greater Lansing community during its 2014 Pay it Forward initiative.

In November 2014, MSUFCU employees celebrated the Credit Union’s 77th anniversary by paying it forward with $7,700 and by performing random acts of kindness in the local community. From paying for customers’ coffee at local coffee shops, to passing out food vouchers at the local farmer’s market, employees surprised members of the community in a number of ways. Area schools also benefited from this initiative. Everett High School received a $1,000 donation to its music program, and Schavey Road Elementary School received a special gift of two ukuleles for children to enjoy in the school’s music class.

Additional organizations that benefited from Pay it Forward included: the Ronald McDonald House and Sparrow Hospital Children’s Center, with handmade cards for patients; Ingham County Animal Shelter, with food, blankets, and cleaning supplies; MSU Student Cancer Support Network Group, with gift cards and food vouchers for a night out; and MSU Student Parents on a Mission, with educational toys and books for the Children’s Nook in the MSU Main Library.

MSUFCU’s Pay it Forward initiative began in 2012 in celebration of the Credit Union’s 75th anniversary. Employees went out into the community and gave back $7,500 to local organizations and community members. This initiative will take place each year moving forward to honor the Credit Union’s anniversary and to continue having a positive impact on the community.

McPharlin commented, “It’s wonderful to see the passion and enthusiasm shown by our employees as they work to make a difference in the lives of others. The Pay it Forward initiative allows us to give back to the community in big and small ways, and we hope it will inspire others to do the same.”

MSU Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest university-based credit union, offers a full range of personal – and business-related financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families worldwide in addition to a variety of select employee groups.
