NAFCU statement on appointment of J. Mark McWatters as acting NCUA chairman

National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEO Dan Berger issued the following statement on President Trump’s appointment of current NCUA Board Member J. Mark McWatters as the agency’s new acting chairman, effective immediately.

Berger phoned McWatters after hearing the news to congratulate him.

“We congratulate Acting Chairman McWatters and look forward to continuing to work with him and Board Member Rick Metsger to ensure a positive regulatory environment for credit unions,” Berger said.

The NAFCU president also congratulated McWatters in a letter sent today.

McWatters joined NCUA’s board in 2014; his term lasts through Aug. 2, 2019. Metsger joined in 2013 and was named chairman in May 2016; his term on the board continues through Aug. 2.
