NAFCU Statement on Corker-Warner Bill On GSE Reform, S. 1217

WASHINGTON, DC (June 25, 2013) National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEO Fred R. Becker, Jr., today issued the following statement in response to Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Mark Warner, D-Va., introduction of S.1217, the ‘‘Secondary Mortgage Market Reform and Taxpayer Protection Act of 2013.”

“We appreciate Sens. Corker, Warner and the other cosponsors’ leadership on this issue. Of primary importance to NAFCU is ensuring credit unions continue to have access to the secondary mortgage market in any housing reform proposal and get fair pricing based on the quality of their loans. Credit unions are safe, responsible lenders and shouldn’t be penalized for the risky practices of others. While a good first step in the debate, we have some concerns about how the proposal would impact small financial institutions.”

“We look forward to working with the senators and their staffs to address our concerns as this issue advances.”
