Neighbors FCU raises $27,000 for tuition assistance with sporting clays tournament

BATON ROUGE, LA (November 18, 2021) — Neighbors FCU held their annual Clays for a Cause sporting clays tournament Friday, November 12 at Bridgeview Gun Club. Teams from regional businesses competed to raise money for the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation.

“We were excited to be able to host Clays for a Cause this year after having to postpone following Hurricane Ida,” said Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb. “Attendees had a great time, however the real triumph of the day was the $27,000 raised for the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation. Clays for a Cause gives Neighbors an amazing opportunity to uphold our commitment to supporting education in our community.”

Teams competed in a 100-shot course. The team from Gerry Lane Enterprises won first place and a $1500 quail hunt package at Covey Rise Lodge. The second place team from A+ Lawn Care took home a $500 clay shoot package for Covey Rise Lodge, while each member of the third place team from Guaranty Media got a $50 gift certificate to Covey Rise Lodge.

This event would not have been possible without our generous sponsors, who contributed a total of $20,000. Special thanks goes to Fiserv, who contributed $5000.

The money raised from Clays for a Cause went to the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation primarily to support two programs: the Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award and Project Grants for Public Schools. Clays for a Cause is the main source of funding for the programs, with the remainder coming from the Free Cash Back Checking Account program and an employee payroll donation program. Project Grants for Public Schools awarded $25,000 in grants to public schools in 2021. To date, the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation has provided over $145,000 in scholarships to students in the Baton Rouge area.

The mission of the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation is to create and support education-focused & community-driven initiatives in the greater Baton Rouge area. As we grow our initiatives, we seek to become an invaluable educational resource to underserved individuals and groups in our service community through scholarships, grants, and volunteer efforts.

About Neighbors Federal Credit Union

Neighbors Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative operating as an  association dedicated to "people helping people." A handful of educators started Baton Rouge  Teachers in 1954 with a shoe box, a couple hundred dollars and the goal of making financial  services available to school system employees in our area.   Now, Neighbors Federal Credit Union is the largest community-chartered credit union in the  state of Louisiana with over 80,000 members and over $1 billion in assets. Since that time,  Neighbors has undergone a variety of changes, but the mission has stayed the same: Enhance  members' financial well-being and be a partner in the communities Neighbors serves.
