Neighbors FCU staff to volunteer throughout GBR community for “Neighbors Day”

BATON ROUGE, LA (October 7, 2021) — On Monday, October 11, 2021, Neighbors FCU’s staff members will take their day off to volunteer with charity organizations at 12 different locations throughout the Greater Baton Rouge Area. In honor of this event, City of Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has proclaimed October 11, 2021 as “Neighbors Day.”

For the fourth annual ”Neighbors Day,” roughly 235 NFCU employees will contribute more than 1,000 hours of service to the community.

“This day is very significant to our community because Neighbors Federal Credit Union–by partnering with other non-profits–is certainly empowering organizations to do very necessary work. Volunteerism is the fabric of any vibrant and thriving community,” Broome said during her 2019 “Neighbors Day” proclamation.

City of Baton Rouge Chief Administrative Officer Darryl Gissel will join NFCU representatives for open media availability from 8:00am to 9:00 PM at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank located at 10600 S. Choctaw Drive, Baton Rouge 70815. Neighbors would like to encourage any and all media to come cover this event. If unable to make this time and location, please contact Bradley Sanchez. Alternate arrangements can be made for any of the 12 volunteer sites upon request.

For the first time, Neighbors will also be working with Matchpoint Connection to partner with local influencers with the mission of promoting both Neighbors Day and service opportunities in Greater Baton Rouge. The influencer partnerships will contribute to a combined social reach of more than 800,000 followers.

Neighbors Day was established after The Great Flood of 2016. Countless employees and members were deeply affected. NFCU staff members went out into the community to support their neighbors in need leaving a lasting impression. An annual day of service was established in their honor.

“There are a lot of ways to define the success of your company,” Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said. “For us, success includes investing in and improving the communities we serve.  Neighbors Day presents an opportunity to impact thousands of people in a single day.”

About Neighbors Federal Credit Union

Neighbors Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative operating as an  association dedicated to "people helping people." A handful of educators started Baton Rouge  Teachers in 1954 with a shoe box, a couple hundred dollars and the goal of making financial  services available to school system employees in our area.   Now, Neighbors Federal Credit Union is the largest community-chartered credit union in the  state of Louisiana with over 76,000 members and over $1 billion in assets. Since that time,  Neighbors has undergone a variety of changes, but the mission has stayed the same: Enhance  members' financial well-being and be a partner in the communities Neighbors serves.
