New $5,000 Academic Scholarship Available Through Plus It Forward Passport Program

Students at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities can earn a scholarship by tracking their volunteer hours and writing a personal essay

ST. PAUL, MN (June 3, 2013) Students at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities have the opportunity to be considered for a $5,000 academic scholarship by participating in the Plus It Forward Passport program. Affinity Plus’ new program gives students the opportunity to volunteer at designated nonprofits in the Twin Cities community and track the hours they spend volunteering, and the number of nonprofits at which they volunteer, using their Plus It Forward Passport (Plus Pass).

When students submit their Scholarship Program Application to be considered for the $5,000 academic scholarship, they will need to include their Plus Pass, and a two-page essay. The entries will be graded based on the number of hours students volunteer, the number of organizations at which they volunteer, and their two-page essay about how their volunteering efforts impacted their community.

Students who choose to participate in the Plus It Forward Passport program can pick up their passports now, at the Affinity Plus University branch located in Minneapolis at 2520 University Avenue S.E. The scholarship winner will be announced at the FREE2BU Block Party that will take place at the Affinity Plus University branch located in Minneapolis at 2520 University Avenue S.E. on Saturday, September 7.

“The Plus Pass is another way for us to carry out our mission of changing the world, one person at a time,” states Kyle L. Markland, President and CEO of Affinity Plus. “We believe this program will inspire more people in the community to become actively engaged, and give back to those in need.”
