New CUNA HR & Organizational Development Council white paper examines how leadership inspires strategic thinking

MADISON, WI (August 9, 2018) — The CUNA HR & Organizational Development Council has published a new white paper, “Inspiring Strategic Thinking: How HR and OD Lead a Forward-Thinking Credit Union.”

HR and organizational leaders are in a prime position to advocate for, and facilitate, the development of strategic thinking as a core competency among their fellow executives, and at the mid-management and staff levels. Member service and back-office staff can also apply strategic thinking in looking for ways to improve processes and procedures in line with the credit union’s top priorities. Within their own department, and in partnership with other business units, HR executives guide the human capital strategy to keep pace with, and anticipate, needed staffing and emerging skill sets and competencies.

This white paper explores:

  • the growing importance of strategic thinking from all functional areas of the credit union, and
  • HR and organizational development’s role in supporting the advancement and application of strategic thinking through:
    • formal training,
    • mentoring and modeling programs, and
    • compensation, reward, and recognition programs.

CUNA Council members are eligible to receive complimentary copies of this, and hundreds of other white papers. The paper is available online in the white paper section of www.cunacouncils.org.
