MADISON, Wis. – A new CUNA Volunteer Institute pre-conference workshop has recently been added to the four-day conference taking place May 1-4 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

The pre-conference workshop will address the recently issued NCUA rule requiring that credit union directors be financially literate. The pre-conference curriculum will help directors:

  • Understand what it means to be financially literate
  • Make sense of the balance sheet and income statement
  • Understand capital
  • Explore major risks every credit union faces
  • Ensure adequate internal controls over risk

Each pre-conference participant will receive a handbook, a ratio formula sheet and a Board DashBoard template.  Participants that successfully complete the onsite exam will receive their CUNA Board Financial Literacy Certificate and pin.

The CUNA Credit Union Board Financial Literacy Workshop will take place April 30.  To learn more or to register for the pre-conference workshop, visit training.cuna.org/VOLCONF.

For more information about four other options to earn the certificate and the new requirement, visit training.cuna.org/board. For questions, call 800-356-9655, ext. 4249 or e-mail training@cuna.coop.
